Twenty-eighteen was certainly one of the biggest years in Lucknow Kinsmen & Kinette history.
Aside from celebrating the 45th anniversary of our club's inception, our team also hosted a massive party in August to ring in the 10th anniversary for Lucknow's Music in the Fields; our 100% non-profit first class music festival.
Starting with our Thursday night kick-off party on August 23rd, Canadian country legend George Canyon got the festival off right, as over 6000 concert guests filled the venue for LMITFX. With tons of great weekend activities such as line dancing, mechanical bull riding, zorb soccer, beach volleyball and frisbee golf, guests were also treated to the world class music entertainment of Brett Eldredge, Brett Kissel, Gord Bamford, Meghan Patrick and so many more. They were also treated to several incredible up-and-coming performers as we once again partnered up with the Country Music Association of Ontario who co-sponsored our Emerging Artist Stage.
As previously mentioned, this festival is completely non-profit as our primary goals include: raising funds for Cystic Fibrosis, local charity projects, hospital foundations, youth programs and for the purpose of driving up tourism in our local community.
This year did not disappoint, as fan support allowed us to enjoy our 2nd most successful year to date. This helped us to donate a significant dollar amount to these causes. During the festival we also hosted a special guitar raffle for festival patrons and one lucky winner walked away with a LMITF-branded guitar signed by every artist on the 3-day bill; culminating in a raffle value of over $10,000 raised for Cystic Fibrosis Canada.
A special thank you goes out to the local Hope Chapter Cystic Fibrosis team for their direct involvement with on-site ticket sales, ultimately making an incredible difference in the effort to promote the raffle.
The festival turned out to be a wonderful weekend, and the considerable investments that we continue to make into our new venue infrastructure have proved to be an essential avenue for growth and fan-appreciation. Currently, our club and our LMITF subcommittees are busy planning for our 11th festival in August 2019.
Please check out www.musicinthefields.ca and like us on all the major social media platforms to follow along with our progress.
Although Music in the Fields is certainly our biggest project of the year, the Lucknow Kinsmen Club is also busy with other successful events including our Men's Recreational Hockey Tournament and our Summerfest Slo-pitch Baseball Tournament in late June; now in it's 3rd decade of operations.
On behalf of the club, I would like to thank the greater Lucknow region for supporting our events and volunteering their time to make our events run successfully with a perfect blend of hard work, fun and community spirit. We look forward to 2019 and wish everyone a happy, healthy new year.
Yours in Kin,
Jordan Andrew
