In 2012, our Members hosted the Second Annual Kinsmen Club of Hamilton Cystic Fibrosis Great Strides Walk-A-Thon. This was held at Hamilton’s Bayfront Park Sunday May 27, 2011. The Club and the event received media attention from the radio stations in Hamilton, and in the local and community newspapers. This event in Hamilton attracted over 500 walkers and generated over $107,000 for Cystic Fibrosis.
For 2013, the Third Annual Kinsmen Club of Hamilton CF Great Strides Walk-A-Thon will be held on Sunday May 26, 2013 again at Hamilton’s Bayfront Park. For more information and to register a team for the event please visit our website www.hamiltonkinsmen.com. For corporate sponsorship, please email us at events@hamiltonkinsmen.com.
In 2011 we joined the team from Cystic Fibrosis Hamilton in selling tickets for the Dream Home Lottery run by the Hamilton Chapter of the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association. The event ran from October 13, 2011 to January 6, 2012. Our team along with seven other Hamilton Service Clubs manned a booth in Limeridge Mall in Hamilton and at the Dream Home Lottery. Our Club was recognized by the Canadian Hard of Hearing as a major supporter. The Kinsmen Club of Hamilton was visible to the public and we were well received in our Community. This project is tentatively scheduled to ramp up in the Fall of 2013.
We will be continuing with our weekend fundraisers at a local Fortinos’ Supermarket for Ronald McDonald House Hamilton, where we sponsor a room on memory of our Fellow Kinsmen, Dave Solomon who suddenly passed away a few years ago. To provide food and shelter for a family for one night costs $100. Since the need is so great, as a group, our Members elected to make the support of this organization our #2 priority behind Cystic Fibrosis.
For 2012, the Boys from Hamilton have some new projects on the burner that we hope will soon come to a boil.
The Members of the Kinsmen Club of Hamilton are very proactive in increasing the awareness our presence in the community. It is unbelievable but not surprising what a small number of dedicated individuals can do when they come together as a team for a common cause.
