Dawn Powell-Parker
Zone K Kin Deputy Governor
I would like to welcome everyone to another exciting year of Kin. My name is Dawn Powell-Parker and I have been a Clinton and District Kinette for 27 years.
I have held every executive position in our club. I have been president a few times. One of my fellow Kinettes and good friend has been after me for several years to become a DG. I always said once my kids got older. Now I have no other excuses since they are now in their late 20s.
I am excited to be your Junior Deputy Governor this year. Please be patient with me as I learn this new position.
A little about my background. I have been married to my husband Dave for 31 years. He was an electrician at Wescast in Wingham and retired when they closed the building. He is not a Kinsmen but has always been supportive of all my volunteer work.
We have two daughters who we are very proud of. Our eldest daughter Kerry works for Maple Leaf Chicken as an inspector. She lives with her boyfriend Scott in Blyth. They met at the University of Guelph.
They do not have any children but the cutest Irish terrier dog named Maizey and two cats, Shadow and Moe. She is a vice president for the Clinton Spring Fair and volunteers her time with them. I used to belong to the fair board too for 20 years.
My younger daughter Michelle went to Western University for criminology and has now decided to become a teacher. She is currently in her second year of teachers college at Lakehead University in Orillia.
Some of you may know her. She is also a Clinton Kinette and was honoured to be one of the top 30 under 30 last year. She also was our president last year while going to school. She has helped with our kinette club for years, being the Easter bunny for several years before she was old enough to join. She also has a very nice boyfriend named Josh.
I recently changed careers. I was a Registered Nurse for over 30 years. I thought I may be ready to retire. I tried it and decided I am not ready to be home with my hubby all day everyday, haha.
I took my Educational Assistant course a few years ago thinking I would have something to fall back on if I ever got tired of being a nurse and here I am….I am now working full time as an Educational Assistant at one of the high schools in Clinton. I am really enjoying my change and it is always interesting working with teens.
In my spare time I enjoy camping with family and friends, watching the Blue Jays, volunteering with the Kinettes and driving my white and pink Jeep named Tatum. (Yes, I am infatuated with Channing Tatum). My favourite bands are AC/DC and Nickelback. I do not like country music.
Looking forward to seeing many of you this year. I will be going to many clubs with “the other Dawn” until I learn more about this position.
Yours in Kin,
DG Dawn P-P
Thank you to our sponsors!
