Presented by the Kinette Club of Oakville
The Kinette Club of Oakville is pleased to present their annual “Sail a Tall Ship” fundraiser in support of Portraits of Honour, at the Bronte Harbour in Oakville.
At 200 feet overall and 11,000 square feet of sail, Canada’s largest sailing ship the “Empire Sandy” majestically cruises Lake Ontario, offering passengers the unique experience of sailing aboard an authentic Tall Ship. Sails are hoisted every cruise as the wind is harnessed to propel the 740 ton “Empire Sandy” along the water. Wide expansive decks and spacious wood interior set the tone for an elegant yet exhilarating experience. Nothing can compare to the experience of dining and dancing under a canopy of stars with billowing canvas or simply enjoying a leisurely afternoon cruise with majestic sounds.
Kin Canada is an all-Canadian service organization made up of active community volunteers. Working together, members are enhancing the quality of life in their communities by promoting service, fellowship, positive values and national pride. Every year Kinsmen, Kinette and Kin clubs contribute millions of dollars to Canadian communities with all monies raised in the community, staying in the community. Last year, more than $15 million was raised; in addition to the countless hours spent planning and carrying out the many fundraising and service projects held Canada wide.
Portraits of Honour is a mural painted by Dave Sopha – an accomplished artist and a member of the Preston Kinsmen Club. Sopha was motivated to honour our fallen soldiers when the death toll from Afghanistan reached 100. The Portraits of Honour National Tour will provide Canadians from coast to coast with an opportunity to honour and celebrate our Canadian soldiers, pay respect to those who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice and to recognize the challenges that face those who will return home with lasting physical or emotional injuries.
