Hosted by the Kinsmen Club of St. Thomas

Overview

The St. Thomas Kinsmen are proud to present FLC 2022, "Here's Looking At You, Kin!" Originally bid for 2020 to commemorate Kin's 100th Anniversary, we are happy to be able to host fellow Kin in person once again for this movie-themed weekend of learning and fellowship.

The schedule of events will be a little different this year! On Friday night, we are offering an optional pub crawl-style fellowship event, including bus transportation to downtown St. Thomas and back again, along with a commemorative t-shirt (mostly "one size" XXL, but a few XL and 3XL will be available on a first come, first served basis).

For Kin not joining us on the pub crawl, there will be music and games in the BYOB hospitality suite Friday night.

The costume contest will take place on Saturday night around 11:00pm. This will give everyone a chance to enjoy the Saturday night banquet, and then get into their costumes to dance the night away in the main ballroom.

Dress up as characters from your favorite movie! There will be prizes, including for Best Costume(s), and if you really want to wow the crowd, you (or your club) can perform a 1-2 minute scene from the movie for a chance at the prize for Best Performance!

The Amazing Race FAQs

Process
Do we pick our own teams?
No, you will be assigned to a team. We will be considering who can drive, length of time in Kin, geographical location, and other factors as we put the teams together.

Do we have to participate?
We certainly hope you will! There will be no breakout sessions or other activities taking place at the hotel during the Amazing Race event – all education is taking place out on the road!

Are there physical challenges?
There will be a little bit of walking, and some light carrying at a couple of the stops. No running, and nothing outrageous is expected in the challenges. Physical limitations of team members can very easily be accommodated.

Is it timed?
Only in that lunch will be served from 1-2 p.m. If you’re back before 1, you have some free time, if you’re back after 1 there will still be hot food available for you!

Will there be a winner?
The Mom answer is that everyone will be a winner!
But yes, we will be keeping score. Points will be awarded for:
• Completing all the stops
• Team enthusiasm (will be judged at each stop as well)

Drivers
What do I need to be a driver for the Amazing Race event?
You will need:
• A vehicle that can get yourself and 3 team members to the various stops in St Thomas
• A blood alcohol content (BAC) of less than 0.05% at the time of the race start Saturday morning

How much driving are we talking?
The entire route is less than 50 km – from the hotel, to all of the stops, and back again

What’s the “compensation” for driving?
All drivers will be compensated at the district mileage rate ($0.40/km).
Council members who are driving will have it added on to their expense cheque, non-council members will receive a $20 gas card.
