September Already!

Wow here we are once again, September, where did the summer go. Well, for the Shelburne Kinettes it flew by because we were sooo busy. We used to have quiet summers where we just participated in Fiddleville, now we have something going almost every other week. I hate to say it but we will be happy when January is here and things are a little quieter, oh wait that is when we have to do all the planning for the events. Oh well you know what they say about busy people.

So what did we do this summer? Worm Charming was our first event. Sounds kind of crazy I know but people actually come to Shelburne to try and charm worms out of the ground. Personally I think a shovel works quicker but who am I to say you shouldn’t try it. The night for worm charming was very wet, lots of rain, so there were only a few die hard charmers out there, but we cooked up some tasty burgers and hot coffee so they could keep on trying to get those worms. Our next event was Movie Night. The town of Shelburne offers free movie nights once a month in June, July, and August. They blow up a drive-in screen and everyone comes out to the park to enjoy the movies. It is like a portable drive-in movie theatre. The Kinettes run the food booth for all three nights. Unfortunately we don’t get to see the movie; maybe next year they will put the screen in a different corner of the park so we can watch too. But we have a great time cooking and go home smelling like popcorn. Next time we will have to make some extra for Zone Membership Director Barb. Right in the middle of the summer, and directly after Kin Kamp, we have Fiddleville, three whole days of working at the food booth. We wouldn’t survive this without our full clubs participation and Carol E’s direction. Way to go Ladies on a fantastic summer.

So September rolled around and we had nothing to do, well we also had to clean up the kitchen after all our events this summer. We continue to cook dinners for the Kinsmen meetings. Oh we also had a great mystery weekend this summer. The ladies went down to Toronto and had spa treatments, partied a little, and just enjoyed a really great weekend. Some of us also joined the Collingwood Kinettes on their mystery weekend in Stratford. We had an awesome time ladies, thank-you for including us.

Our plans for the upcoming year include more social time at the meetings and increasing our organizational skills. We are currently running a McMillan’s campaign trying to raise some much needed general funds. We will be hosting our annual Fantasia party this fall, so plan to attend. Plans are also in the works for our second annual silent auction and vendors fair. It was a huge success last year so we would like to try it again. This will be happening in the spring so stay tuned. We have discontinued our sale of Regal products as we found it wasn’t as profitable as we had hoped. I still have the best of intentions on keeping up the updates on our page of the District website and our Facebook page. We want to ensure that everyone knows what we are up to and will come out and attend our events. We have almost sold all of our cookbooks, our joint project with the Collingwood Kinettes, only 10 left get yours soon. Our Nevada account is still thriving and we have the opportunity for a second distributor this fall.

A new project we are hoping to get on board with is called “Operation Red Nose”. We will be doing this as a joint project with all the local service clubs in the area. So far the Rotary, Lions, and Kinettes are hoping to help get it running but it will take the whole community to launch it. The basics of the program are getting those persons, who shouldn’t be driving for whatever reason, home safely. It runs for five weekends from end of November to New Years Eve. It is perfect for communities who don’t have public transit or a taxi service who can’t keep up with the demand. It is totally free for those needing a ride home and is run on donations. I think it would be a good project for all of the clubs in the Zone. Maybe we can ask our Deputy Governors to invite them out to speak to us on how the project runs.

Well that’s about it for now, don’t want to make the report too longwinded and go into too many details. We hope to get out and visit our fellow Kinettes in the Zone and hope they will return the favour and come see us.

Welcome Carol, Kristin, and Heather

The Kinette Club of Shelburne is pleased to welcome three new members to its roster. Carol, Kristin and Heather were officially sworn in as members at our installation night in June. All three have joined the club's executive as Directors and have jumped right into our existing projects. They are full of fresh ideas and enthusiasm and enjoy participating in all events. All three are live in Shelburne and Carol has taken on the role of membership promotion. This is perfect as she knows pretty much everyone that lives there.

Because of the membership programs offered from National Headquarters last year we were able to have a student member. Kayla has since joined the Kinettes fulltime.

We are so fortunate to be able to add these lovely ladies to our roster. They are a welcome addition to our club and we look forward to our first Mystery Weekend together. Watch out ladies, and remember "What happens on Mystery Weekend stays on Mystery Weekend."

Let Your Fingers Do The Shopping

Shelburne Kinettes are currently working on a new fundraiser for them. Although many of you have done this fundraiser before and some still continue to do it, Shelburne ladies wanted to give it a try.

We are selling MacMillan products. So if you have a hankering for some chocolate chunk cookies, maybe a pizza or a spring roll, maybe a great low fat muffin, or maybe you'd like to sink your teeth into a great cowboy steak, give us a call or drop us an email and place an order. There is so much variety and its all scrumptious.

Now of course we are still selling Regal during all this. Our orders go in on the first Thursday of each month. So if you'd like to order or haven't seen a catalogue in awhile, contact us.

Hope to see everyone at Zone Conference in Collingwood. Break out the hand cuffs!
Yours In Kin
Odette

Fantasia Party!!

Join the Shelburne Kinette on October 21, 2009 at the Shelburne Curling Club for a fun evening. The ladies are hosting a Fantasia party that night for ladies only. Sorry gentlemen you will have to be happy with what your partner brings home, and yes this means the Feversham Kinsmen too.

There will be raffles, a 50-50 draw, incredible muchies, lots of fun, and great Kin fellowship. So bring your club members, your neighbours, your co-workers. We'd love to see you. Proceeds will be going to help the Shelburne Kinettes with community events and projects. So everyone benefits; the community, the Kinettes, you and your partner, what a great evening!

Please let Denise Egan or Odette Houle know if you are attending so that we make sure that there are enough munchies and beverages for everyone. For my contact information please see the Past Governors profile page.

Welcome Kayla

The Kinette Club of Shelburne is pleased to welcome Kayla Houle. Kayla is the daughter of Odette and Rob and has been participating in Kin functions for most of her life. You got it a true Kin Kid. The logical progression was to join the club but she was too young. Now thanks to the National Membership Committee, Kayla is the first youth member in all of Canada. She had the pleasure of being installed at National Convenention by then National President Doug Robinson. The National Membership Committee has come up with some great new membership alternatives for our youth and for college and university students. Kayla is attanding Loyalist College in Belleville but helps out with projects when she is home. She is a welcome addition to the Shelburne Kinettes.
