RESOLUTION – RE: ARTICLE 13 DISTRICT HOUSE RULES
Moved by: Zone C
At Zone Conference on March 7th, 2010, the members of Zone C Kin, moved that this resolution be forwarded
to the Governors of the day for inclusion in Spring Convention Resolutions.
Section 4 – District Officer Expenses
All registration expenses of the District Officer and the representative of the Vice Governors committee attending the conference shall be borne by the Host Club.
Whereas:
The costs being borne by Host Clubs to host events with dwindling attendance are becoming increasingly higher and,
Whereas:
The Host Club does not have any input on those that are attending from District or Vice teams and,
Whereas:
In many instances, a forwarded report could be given by the Deputy Governor or a member of the Deputy Governors’ team eliminating the need for a travelling visitor with no further expense to anyone,
Therefore be it resolved that:
Article 13, Section 4 – District Officer Expenses, be removed in its entirety.
Intent:
To have the cost of travelling members of District or Vice teams to be borne by their budgets, not on the host club, if they deem their presence necessary.
Attached below are the minutes from Zone Conference 2010 which was held in Collingwood on March 7th.
Also attached are the Governor's report, the Vice Governor's report, and Deputy Governor Christine's report, all in their entirety. They were condenced in the minutes but we have included them in full for your reading pleasure. The upcoming resolutions for Spring Convention are also included.
The February edition of the Zone C newsletter is now available. Please check your email or view it online.
See you all at Zone Conference in Collingwood. It will be the greatest prison break party ever!
Do you know what Cystic Fibrosis is? Are you familiar with the daily lifestyle of a CF patient? Do you know why CF is our National charity of choice? Does your club hold regular CF fundraisers? Does your club promote awareness in your community about CF? Does your club donate yearly to CF? Does your club increase its donation each year by at least $25.00? Are we all doing what we can to help find a cure for this fatal disease? Are you teaching your new and seasoned members about CF and what break-throughs have occurred lately?
These are questions you might ask yourself the next time you head to a club meeting. In this brief report we will try to answer a few of them. But we challenge you to seek out the answers to all of these questions and if you donˇ¦t know where the resources are start with your club CF Director, your President, and us, your Zone CF/Service Directors.
What are the signs and symptoms of cystic fibrosis?
« difficulty breathing
« constant cough which brings up thick mucus
« excessive appetite, with weight loss
« bowel disturbances, such as intestinal obstruction or frequent, oily stools
« skin which tastes salty
« repeated or prolonged bouts of pneumonia
« failure to thrive
Cystic fibrosis was first described as a disease in the late 1930s. At the time, it was recognized usually only after a child had died, often from malnutrition or pneumonia. Medical awareness of CF has increased over the years. But it still may be confused with other common diseases, such as asthma, chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, or celiac disease. The effects of CF are most devastating in the lungs. Ultimately, most CF deaths are due to lung disease.
« one in every 3,600 children born in Canada has cystic fibrosis
« 60% of people with cystic fibrosis are diagnosed in the first year of life, and 90% by age 10
« 3,500 children, adolescents and adults attend specialized cystic fibrosis clinics
« one in 25 Canadians carries a defective version of the gene responsible for cystic fibrosis
« more than 50% of people with CF carry two copies of the most common cystic fibrosis mutation
« more than 85% of all people with cystic fibrosis carry at least one copy of the mutation
« in the 1960s, most children with cystic fibrosis did not live long enough to attend kindergarten
« today, half of all Canadians with cystic fibrosis are expected to live into their late 30s and beyond
« in 2007, for the first time, the number of Canadian adults with cystic fibrosis (aged 18+) surpassed the number of children with CF
Cystic Fibrosis is a fatal disease! There is no cure but with our help CF sufferers are now living longer, planning for a future, and even becoming grandparents, where once they did not even make it to school. With medication, daily therapy, and even transplants, CF patients are now able to lead as close to normal lives as is possible with this debilitating disease. Remember to sign your organ donor card and make your wishes known to your family members for they have the final say in donating organs. Even though tragedy may have struck a family they can still save someone else's life or make it possible for another to live longer till a cure is found. In my family organ donations were made to save three people's lives and to give two persons their sight. Out of our tragedy came hope. You can make a difference; sign your organ donor card today.
Remember to get your club's donation in as soon as you are able so that the District CF/Service Directors can invest it to obtain better interest on our donations.
As we write this there are a few members of District One who are enjoying the sunny weather of Cuba, having taken advantage of the great rate for the CF trip fundraiser.
Don't forget to submit for your Kevin Denbok Public Awareness Award, Michael McBeath Individual Achievement Award, Myrtle Wilson Memorial Service Award, and the Sinclair Service Shield Award. Submissions are now due to Christine for Zone Awards and to District on or before April 15. Please also remember to submit your submissions for the Bill Skelly Award. This award is presented to one Club in each District that has put forward an outstanding Kin-CF event over the past year. The deadline for submissions is June 30. Submissions should be sent to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation office.
So what are we going to do as clubs; spread the word about Cystic Fibrosis and continue doing the excellent job of fundraising for a cure.

Life is beautiful and busy up in Zone C this
season! To start off the term the Wasaga Beach
Kinettes once again hosted their incredible
community wide event of the Christmas Home
Show. Shortly after, the Collingwood Kinettes
were excited to be hosting their Zone sanctioned
40 something-th Annual Craft Auction. A
great night of food and fun! Beaver Valley has
been cooking up a storm and is getting
geared up for their Christmas Santa Visits
and projects. All of our ladies are so busy this
time of year getting ready for their local parades,
dinners and Christmas parties for their local communities.
It really is inspiring to see how big of an effect
these Zone C Kinettes have on their communities.
Hosting Hockey games, sponsoring students
and teams, food banks and dinners,
clothing for kids, everything you could imagine,
these ladies are working hard to find it.
If you havenˇ¦t been up to visit some of the
Zone C Kin events lately, ˇĄTis the season!
Have a great one!
Yours in Kin,
Christine Cooper
