First and foremost, l would like to Thank Governors Karen and Dutch for asking to be on their Team Ohana 2018-2019 as Zone K Kinette Deputy Governor. I am glad they had the faith in me to do the second year as Deputy Governor. I learned so much my first year, it is nice to be able too improve on it for this year!
I am Melissa Penner from the Mitchell & District Kinette Club, I have been a Kin member for 8 years. I have wanted to be on the Zone Team since day one. This year I am Zone K Kinette DG, Service Director and Membership Co-ordinator. I have been a Palmerston & District Kinette, Listowel Kinette and now Mitchell & District Kinette. I have been a Service Director 3x, Vice-President x3, Membership x3, Awards X1, Registrar x1.
I have been a member of the HOPE (Huron, Oxford, and Perth Counties) Chapter a division of Cystic Fibrosis Canada for 7 years. My main reason for joining Kin in because my friends had a daughter born with Cystic Fibrosis and she just celebrated her 7th birthday in August. Her first three month were touch and go, they were about to be homeless and pretty much panhandled to get gas to go back and forth to London and they both lost their jobs to make sure their little girl was going to make it.
For 5 years I have been an active member of Toastmasters International with the Linguists of Listowel Toastmasters and received my Competent Communicator (CC) within 8 months. I have done various contests and was VP of Public Relations for 4 years. Now I am a member of Speak Stratford Toastmasters and I received my Competent Leadership (CL) last June. I was Speak Stratford's Treasurer for 6 months and now I am the VP of Public Relations. A position l feel very comfortable doing. I was in a Table Topic Contest, chaired several meetings, entered several contest, and chaired Speak Stratford first ever Membership Drive.
I look forward to coming out to your meetings, events, and being an extra set of hands when you need it so you can be out socializing with your community. Helping Zone K have a very productive year on Team Ohana 2018-2019.
I am here today because I took a paralyzing stroke in 2000. The doctors said I would not live to see lunch. Little did they know I could hear them and prove every word they said wrong. I walked in a week and a half and talked in two weeks. Volunteering is my life!
💥Anything Is Possible!💥
Yours In Kin,
Zone K Kinette Deputy Governor
Team Ohana 2018-2019
